Solar Hot Water Quality, Efficiency, and Performance

The most important quality of a solar hot water system is the ability to provide a consistent supply of solar heated hot water. Consistently meeting the hot water demand is what saves customers money on their bill and reduces peak utility demand. The old gold standard of peak collector efficiency plays only a small part in the overall ability of the system to meet demand and should be considered as antiquated as traditional solar thermal technology.

The Green Notions Solar Water Heaters manufactured by the Sun Bandit® Hybrid Energy System proves that overall solar hot water efficiency should be defined by simplicity, reliability, and consistency rather than the potential for excess collector output on the hottest days of the year.

Installation Guide

Our new Hybrid Water Heaters are an easy and affordable way to increase the value of your homes with no long term contracts required. See Step 1&2 below for easy installations:

STEP 1: Install Sun Bandit Hybrid Water Heater

  • Install a solar ready Sun Bandit Hybrid Water Heater as you would a conventional water heater. (Note: Solar is not required for normal operation)
  • Plumbing and electrical/gas connections are the same as a conventional water heater.
  • Include conduit to South facing roof area for future electrical connection of solar electric panels.
  • Material and labor are eligible for a 30% tax credit if buyer elects to add solar electric panels as an upgrade.
  • Our system can meet energy efficiency and/ or renewable energy requirements imposed by AHJs.

STEP 2: Add Solar Electric Panel Kits

  • Solar electric panels use the free energy of the sun to heat water which reduces energy costs to the home owner.
  • Most of the infrastructure is in place from Step 1.
  • Panel mounting and connections are simple and can likely be added to the scope of an existing trade.
  • Our professionals may be available in your area to assist with installation.
  • Tax incentives are calculated based on all equipment installed in Steps 1 and 2 while the incremental cost is only that of Step 2.
  • Our solar electric panel kits are ICC-SRCC OG-100 Certified.

Micro-Grid Inverters can only be installed with one of the following circuit configurations:
> One (1) Master for use with Two (2) solar PV Panels
> One (1) Master + One (1) Subordinate for use with Four (4) solar PV Panels

The water heater must be correctly plumbed and completely filled before energizing any element or burner
✓ INSTALLER MUST BOND THE NEUTRAL (CONNECT NEUTRAL TO GROUND)

✓ CHECK ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO ENSURE THEY ARE TIGHT AND SECURE
✓ RESISTANCE FROM ROOF THROUGH AC MICRO-GRID ELEMENTS SHOULD BE
APPROXIMATELY 19.2 OHMS
✓ SET EACH AC MICRO-GRID ELEMENT THERMOSTAT TO “VERY HOT”
The grid-tied backup thermostat is pre-set from the factory for optimum performance and does not need to be adjusted
